Revenue is growing. The team is bigger. Customers are happy, and you have earned respect. Yet every important decision still comes back to you. You cannot properly switch off or disappear for a month because the business depends too heavily on your presence.
Somewhere along the way, the company you built to create freedom became the very thing taking that freedom away. Success remains visible from the outside. Inside, however, life feels smaller and the pressure keeps building.
That is the Hamster Wheel Trap®—and it is not why you started.
My story
From McDonald's to helping founders buy back their freedom.
It started at McDonald's
My business education began at McDonald's. There, I learned how world-class systems and leadership allow people to perform consistently without depending on one person to hold everything together. Standards were clear. Responsibility travelled through the operation. The lesson was bigger than fast food: a strong company should not falter when its owner steps away. That understanding became the foundation for helping founders build businesses that work without consuming their lives.
20+ years of business coaching
Over 20 years of business coaching, I have worked with thousands of owners and leadership teams across multiple industries and continents. Different companies brought different pressures, yet the work kept returning to one central purpose: helping founders build businesses that no longer need them at the centre of everything. This experience was earned inside decisions, not developed from theory. It showed me what creates freedom—and what quietly takes it away.
I kept seeing the same pattern
The pattern was there. Successful founders had built growing businesses with happy customers, yet every decision still came back to them. The founder was the bottleneck. Decisions piled up, the team waited and growth hit a ceiling. Meanwhile, life became smaller. These owners looked accomplished but felt trapped inside companies that could not run or be sold without them. The problem was clear; it simply had not been named yet.
I gave it a name
Eventually, I gave the problem a name: the Hamster Wheel Trap®. It is the invisible cycle that keeps business owners working in their companies rather than on them. Greater success creates more demands; those demands increase dependency on the founder. The trap steals time and freedom while limiting business value. Once owners can recognise what is happening, they can begin changing it. My mission is simple: help them escape it.
I wrote the book
I wrote "Your Business Sucks" as the wake-up call many founders need. Most owners do not really own a business; they have created a job that owns them. The book explains why that happens and shows how to fix it. Drawing on everything I have learned about the Hamster Wheel Trap®, it turns hard-won coaching experience into a practical route towards a company that works without destroying the owner's life.
Why Your Business Sucks had to be Written.
The book distils everything I have learned about the Hamster Wheel Trap® into a clear roadmap for owners who want change. It reveals where dependency takes hold, then shows how to build a business that works without destroying their life. It is not theory.
It is a practical way out.
Most owners have a job that owns them.
This book shows you how to fix it.

How I help business owners break the cycle
My work begins with a question: is the business serving the owner, or has the relationship reversed? I look beyond surface growth to find where decisions stall, responsibility remains blurred and the founder is still carrying too much. Then we address what is actually holding the company back. The thinking is commercial, the conversation is candid, and every step must move the owner towards a business that can thrive independently.
Straight-Talking, Practical Coaching
You will not get vague encouragement or theory detached from the decisions in front of you. I ask direct questions, challenge assumptions and help turn difficult issues into practical action. The conversation may be uncomfortable at times. It remains constructive, commercially grounded and focused on progress that can be seen.
Build a Business That Does Not Depend on You
Freedom becomes possible when leadership extends beyond the founder. I help owners establish accountability and develop people who can make decisions without waiting for permission. Systems support consistent performance, while delegation reduces reliance on one individual. The company becomes stronger, not more vulnerable, when its owner steps back from control.
Turn Growth Into Freedom, Not More Pressure
Growth should widen your life, not take it over. The right progress creates breathing room and strengthens the company's capacity to perform without constant intervention. It gives the owner choices about time, investment and the future. If expansion only brings pressure, the business has grown larger without becoming more valuable.

Who I work with
I work with founders and leadership teams who have built something valuable but know the way of operating cannot carry them forward.
They are ready to confront owner dependency, change how responsibility moves through the company and build a business capable of creating success without consuming the people behind it.
Founders Who Have Become the Bottleneck
When every choice returns to you, the business cannot move faster than your available time. I help founders transfer authority, strengthen decision-making around them and stop being the automatic answer to every problem. The goal is not to become less important. It is to make your presence unnecessary for progress.
Business Owners Preparing for the Next Stage of Growth
The next stage cannot be reached by repeating the habits that created the current one. I work with owners who need the business to mature before it scales. Together, we prepare the structure and leadership required for growth that adds value without placing another layer of pressure on the founder.
Leadership Teams Ready to Take More Ownership
A leadership title means little without ownership behind it. I help teams make decisions, accept genuine accountability and lead beyond their functions. The founder still sets direction, but no longer carries the entire company alone. Stronger leadership creates momentum across the business and gives growth a far more dependable foundation.
Trusted Frameworks. Global Recognition.
My coaching draws on trusted frameworks, but never treats a business as a template. Scaling Up brings discipline to the demands of growth, while Wealth Dynamics helps people understand where their strengths create the greatest value. My long association with ActionCOACH adds a global perspective shaped by more than two decades of coaching.
In 2023, I was recognised as a member of the Forbes Coaches Council. These credentials matter because they strengthen the work; they do not replace judgement. Every framework must serve the owner, the team and the future they are determined to build.
